Trusted with the whole system.

Built for 6,800 feet

High-country power plays by different rules.

A system that works in the Valley can fail in Williams. These four conditions shape every design.

Snow load

High-country design snow loads are far above the Phoenix area's. Racking, attachments and ground mounts are specified for them, and layouts let snow slide off.

Deep cold

Panel voltage climbs on sub-zero mornings, and lithium batteries shouldn't charge while frozen. Strings and battery locations are planned for the coldest night of the year.

Monsoon lightning

From mid-June into September, afternoon storms bring lightning to the ridges. Surge protection on both the DC and AC sides, plus solid grounding, is standard.

Wildfire season

In extreme fire weather, APS may shut off power in high-risk forest areas. Battery backup or a properly connected generator keeps wells, heat and refrigeration running.

Service area

From Flagstaff to the South Rim.

Based in the Grand Canyon 86023 area and working across Williams, Flagstaff and the country in between: in-town homes, forest acreage, and properties a long way past the end of the power line.

Straight answers

Solar & electrical questions, answered.

34 answers about high-country solar, off-grid batteries, panels, lightning, permits and hiring in Arizona.

All 34 answers
Does solar work well at high elevation in Northern Arizona?

Yes. Panels produce more efficiently when they are cold, and the thin, clear air at 6,000–7,000 feet lets plenty of sun through. Williams, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon area are good places for solar.

How is an off-grid system sized?

Start with a list of every load: what it draws and how many hours it runs, especially in winter. That sets the daily energy the batteries must supply and the size of array needed to refill them on short winter days.

What is smart panel load monitoring?

It measures how much power each circuit, or your whole home, uses in real time and shows it in an app. You see exactly what is running, when, and what it costs.

How do I protect my home from monsoon lightning surges?

Use layered protection: a whole-home surge protective device at the panel, a sound grounding and bonding system, and point-of-use protectors for sensitive electronics. Recent electrical codes require surge protection on new and replaced dwelling services.

Is heat tape safe?

It is when it's the right type, installed to the manufacturer's instructions and plugged into a ground-fault-protected circuit. Problems come from cheap or damaged cable, cable overlapped on itself, and extension cords.

How do I verify an electrician or solar contractor in Arizona?

Search the contractor on the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) website. Check that the license is active, that the business name matches, and that its classification covers your job, such as CR-11 Electrical for electrical and solar electrical work.
